Application and Operation Instructions
Step 1: Preparation and Mold Treatment
Prepare HY-901 Part A and Part B, digital scale (0.1g precision), stirring rod, vacuum degassing chamber, pad head mold, release agent, nitrile gloves, lint free cloth and other tools and materials. First, treat the mold: wipe the inside of the mold thoroughly with lint free cloth dipped in alcohol to ensure no dust, oil or residual silicone inside, then apply a thin uniform layer of release agent inside the mold and let it dry for 10-15 minutes to allow the release agent to fully dry and form a barrier film, ensuring easy demolding without sticking.
Step 2: Accurate Weighing and Mixing
Stir Part A (silicone) and Part B (curing agent) separately before use, as fillers may settle during storage and stirring evenly ensures stable product performance. Then accurately weigh at a weight ratio of 100:2 to 100:3, for example, weigh 100g Part A and add 2 to 3g Part B. Weighing must be accurate, use a digital scale with precision of at least 0.1g, control ratio error within ±0.1g, as inaccurate ratio directly affects curing results and pad head performance.
Step 3: Thorough Stirring
Stir Part A and Part B thoroughly for 3-5 minutes with a stirring rod. Stir along the container wall clockwise or counterclockwise, while continuously scraping the bottom and side walls of the container to ensure silicone at the bottom and walls is also uniformly mixed, avoiding local incomplete curing caused by uneven mixing. Stir gently to avoid introducing excessive air bubbles. After stirring, the mixed silicone should have uniform color without obvious streaks or color difference.
Step 4: Vacuum Degassing
Place the uniformly mixed silicone in a vacuum degassing chamber for vacuum degassing, which is a critical step for producing high quality pad heads and must not be omitted. Set vacuum degree to -0.09MPa, degassing time 5-8 minutes. During degassing, you will see bubbles continuously rising from the silicone surface, and the silicone volume will first expand then contract, which is normal. Degassing is complete when no more bubbles rise to the surface and the silicone volume returns to stable. The purpose of degassing is to remove air bubbles introduced during mixing, as insufficient or no degassing causes internal pores in pad heads, resulting in missing prints, pinholes and incomplete patterns during printing.
Step 5: Mold Pouring
Remove the degassed silicone from the vacuum chamber, then slowly pour into the prepared pad head mold. When pouring, slowly pour along one side wall of the mold, allowing the silicone to flow naturally down the wall and level out inside the mold, do not pour directly from the middle of the mold to avoid impact creating new bubbles. Pour slightly above the mold level as silicone will shrink slightly during curing, ensuring full sized and well shaped pad heads after curing without material shortage.
Step 6: Curing, Demolding and Post Treatment
After pouring, place the mold on a flat surface and let it cure at room temperature (around 25°C) for 3-4 hours. Curing time is affected by ambient temperature, higher temperature cures faster, lower temperature cures slower. You can test for complete curing by gently pressing the pad head surface with your finger, if there is no obvious indentation and it is not sticky, curing is complete. After curing, demold carefully: first gently pry open the mold edge to allow air to enter, then slowly remove the pad head from the mold, be careful not to pull forcefully to avoid deformation or tearing. It is recommended to let the demolded pad head rest at room temperature for 24 hours before use to allow the silicone crosslinking reaction to fully complete and reach optimal performance, resulting in more stable printing results and longer service life.

Precautions
Wear nitrile gloves during operation to avoid direct skin contact with uncured silicone and curing agent. Avoid contact with substances containing tin, sulfur, amines and similar materials as these may inhibit silicone curing, resulting in uncured or sticky pad heads. Stir Part A and Part B separately before use. Weighing must be accurate, mix uniformly including bottom and walls. Recommended curing temperature between 15-35°C, lower temperatures extend curing time, higher temperatures shorten operation time. Maintain ventilation in the operating area and avoid inhaling volatile gases.
Storage
Store products in a cool and dry place at storage temperature 5-30°C, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature environments. Shelf life 12 months unopened, use as soon as possible after opening. Reseal immediately after each use, especially Part B curing agent is moisture sensitive and contact with moisture in air causes failure affecting curing results. Refrigerated storage can extend shelf life, but allow to return to room temperature before use to avoid condensation water affecting product performance.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between HY-901 economy grade and other models? How should I choose?
A1: The core feature of HY-901 is affordable price, outstanding cost performance and simple easy operation, specifically designed for small and medium batch general pad printing and budget conscious customers. Differences from other models: HY-901 economy grade has affordable price, suitable for small and medium batch general printing, first choice for entry level customers; HY-902 high wear grade has long pad head life up to 100,000 to 150,000 prints, suitable for high volume automated production lines; HY-912 multi color universal grade has excellent resilience and high overprint accuracy, suitable for multi color overprinting and fine patterns; HY-916 super soft grade has excellent conformability, suitable for large curvature complex curved surfaces. In simple terms: if you are a beginner new to the industry, small and medium batch production, or budget conscious, choose HY-901 economy grade for the highest cost performance; if high volume single color automated production, choose HY-902; if multi color overprinting or fine complex patterns are needed, choose HY-912; if large curvature complex curved surface, choose HY-916. If still unsure, contact our technical team for free consultation and we will provide professional selection recommendations based on your specific products and printing requirements.
Q2: What is the approximate service life of pad heads made from HY-901 economy grade? Is it sufficient?
A2: Pad heads made from HY-901 economy grade, under normal usage conditions, have an approximate service life of 50,000 to 80,000 prints, and the specific life is affected by multiple factors including printed product material, ink type, printing pressure, operation standardization and pad head maintenance. For small and medium batch production, a life of 50,000 to 80,000 prints is completely sufficient, and one pad head can support production for a long time. If you have a high volume, high frequency automated production line with large daily printing volume, we recommend choosing HY-902 high wear grade with a life of 100,000 to 150,000 prints, and although the unit price is slightly higher, the comprehensive usage cost is lower without frequent pad head replacement and with higher production efficiency. It should be noted that pad head life is greatly related to usage and maintenance, and correct usage and maintenance can significantly extend pad head life: do not apply excessive printing pressure to avoid over compression of pad heads; regularly clean pad head surfaces with lint free cloth to remove residual ink and dust; when not in use, store pad heads in a cool and dry place avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature environments; avoid pad heads contacting sharp objects causing scratches. We can send free samples for your testing before bulk ordering.
Q3: Why does the silicone not cure after mixing, or remain sticky on the surface after curing?
A3: Incomplete curing or sticky surfaces usually have several causes: inaccurate Part B ratio, always weigh accurately at 100:2 to 100:3 ratio. Uneven mixing especially at container bottom and walls, always scrape and stir thoroughly for 3-5 minutes. Contact with curing inhibiting substances such as tin, sulfur or amine containing materials, ensure clean tools and containers. Expired or improperly stored Part B curing agent, store sealed and use within shelf life. Check these causes one by one, or contact technical support for assistance.
