Detailed Application Scenarios
Electronic Housing Printing Application
HY-916 super soft pad printing silicone is widely used in the electronics industry for logo and pattern printing on mobile phone cases, remote controls, computer mice, keyboards, chargers, power banks, Bluetooth earphone charging cases and other electronic product housings. Electronic product housings usually have irregular shapes with curved surfaces and concave convex button areas, and normal hardness pad heads cannot fully conform, resulting in incomplete logo printing and blurred edges.
Pad heads made from HY-916 are super soft with elongation ≥400%, perfectly conforming to the complex curved surfaces and button areas of electronic housings, ensuring complete and clear logo and pattern printing. Meanwhile, this model provides uniform ink transfer, producing sharp edged and full color identifications, meeting the high appearance quality requirements of the electronics industry. Electronic products usually have large batches and tight delivery schedules, and Hongye Silicone offers stable supply with 500 tons monthly capacity, able to respond quickly to urgent orders from overseas electronic manufacturers.
Cosmetic Packaging Printing Application
In the cosmetics industry, HY-916 is used for brand logo and pattern printing on cosmetic bottles, perfume bottles, lipstick tubes, mascara tubes, powder compacts, eye cream jars and other cosmetic packaging. Cosmetic packaging usually has elegant shapes with many curved surfaces and large curvatures, with extremely high requirements for printing quality and pattern fineness, as printing quality directly affects the premium image of the product.
The super soft characteristics of HY-916 enable it to perfectly conform to the elegant curved surfaces and special shapes of cosmetic packaging, ensuring complete brand logo printing with fine lines and uniform color. This product is RoHS and REACH certified, safe and non toxic, and can be safely used for cosmetic packaging printing, meeting the strict material safety requirements of the cosmetics industry. Meanwhile, HY-916 pad heads are flexible and durable with long service life, withstanding high volume printing and lowering comprehensive usage costs. For circumferential printing on cylindrical products such as lipstick tubes and mascara tubes, HY-916 super soft pad heads provide stable and uniform printing results, making them the ideal choice for premium cosmetic packaging printing.
Application and Operation Instructions
Step 1: Preparation
Prepare HY-916 Part A (silicone) and Part B (curing agent), digital scale, stirring rod, vacuum degassing chamber, pad head mold, mold release agent, nitrile gloves and other tools. Ensure the mold is clean and dry, apply a thin uniform layer of mold release agent inside the mold and let it dry for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Weighing and Mixing
Accurately weigh Part A and Part B by weight ratio 100:2. For example, take 100g Part A and add 2g Part B. Use a digital scale with precision of at least 0.1g, control ratio error within ±0.1g, as inaccurate ratio directly affects curing results and pad head service life.
Step 3: Stirring
Stir Part A and Part B thoroughly for 3-5 minutes. Scrape the bottom and side walls of the container during stirring to ensure silicone at the bottom and walls is also uniformly mixed, avoiding local incomplete curing. Stir gently to avoid introducing excessive bubbles. The mixed silicone should have uniform color without obvious streaks or color difference.
Step 4: Vacuum Degassing
Place the mixed silicone in a vacuum degassing chamber and degas for 5-8 minutes at -0.09MPa negative pressure until no more bubbles rise to the surface. Degassing is a critical step to ensure pad head quality. Insufficient degassing causes internal pores in pad heads, resulting in missing prints and pinholes during printing, seriously affecting printing results and pad head life.
Step 5: Mold Pouring
Slowly pour the degassed silicone along the side wall of the prepared pad head mold. Pour from one side and let the silicone flow naturally to avoid creating new bubbles. Fill slightly above the mold level as silicone will shrink slightly during curing, ensuring full sized pad heads after curing.
Step 6: Curing and Demolding
Cure at room temperature (25°C) for 2-4 hours. Confirm full curing by gently pressing the pad head surface, then demold carefully. Peel slowly from the mold edge, avoid excessive pulling that may cause deformation or tearing. It is recommended to let the demolded pad head rest for 24 hours before use to allow silicone properties to reach optimal state for more stable printing results.

Precautions
It is recommended to wear nitrile gloves during operation to avoid direct skin contact with uncured silicone and curing agent. Avoid contact with substances containing tin, sulfur, amines and similar materials as these may inhibit silicone curing, resulting in uncured or sticky pad heads. Part A and Part B should be stirred separately before use. Weighing must be accurate as excessive ratio deviation affects curing results. Mixing must be uniform otherwise local incomplete curing may occur. Recommended curing temperature between 15-35°C, lower temperatures extend curing time, higher temperatures shorten operation time. Maintain ventilation in the operating area and avoid inhaling volatile gases.
Storage
Store products in a cool and dry place at storage temperature 5-30°C, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature environments. Shelf life 12 months unopened, use as soon as possible after opening. Reseal immediately after each use, especially Part B curing agent is moisture sensitive and contact with moisture in air causes failure affecting curing results. Refrigerated storage can extend shelf life, but allow to return to room temperature before use to avoid condensation water affecting product performance.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between HY-916 super soft pad head and normal hardness pad heads?
A1: HY-916 has hardness 16 Shore A, softer than normal 23A, 25A and 28A grades, with elongation ≥400% and larger deformation under pressure, able to better conform to products with large curvatures and obvious concave convex surfaces. For flat or slightly curved surface products, normal hardness pad heads are sufficient, and super soft pad heads may actually cause pattern blurring due to excessive deformation. In simple terms: use normal hardness for flat surfaces, use super soft for curved surfaces.
Q2: Do super soft pad heads wear out faster and have shorter service life?
A2: Super soft pad heads do wear slightly faster than high hardness ones due to lower hardness, but HY-916 has tensile strength ≥2.5MPa and tear strength ≥10kN/m with excellent physical properties. Under normal usage conditions, service life can still reach 50,000 to 80,000 prints. Moreover, super soft pad heads are mainly used for curved surface printing where normal pad heads simply cannot print well, and frequent pad head changes actually cost more. Overall, HY-916 still offers high cost performance.
Q3: What should I do if there are bubbles on the surface after mixing?
A3: Bubbles after mixing are normal and must be removed through vacuum degassing before use. Place the mixed silicone in a vacuum degassing chamber and degas for 5-8 minutes at -0.09MPa until no more bubbles rise to the surface. If a vacuum degassing chamber is not available, you can let the mixed silicone sit for 15-20 minutes to allow some bubbles to naturally rise, but the effect is not as good as vacuum degassing and there may still be tiny pores inside the pad head. It is recommended to equip a vacuum degassing chamber as necessary equipment for ensuring pad head quality.
