Buyers looking for a silicone rubber manufacturer usually arrive with a shortlist built from search results, and leave with quotations that are hard to compare. The numbers differ, but so do the things behind them: which grade is actually being offered, what documentation exists for it, and how the supplier behaves on the second order.
Mould making punishes that gap slowly. The first drum works. The problem appears three months later, when a workshop cannot reproduce the release behaviour its process was built around.
A named grade, not a category. "Platinum cure silicone" covers ten hardness points and several mixing ratios. A recommendation is only useful when it names the grade, the hardness and the ratio, because those three decide how the material behaves in the mould.
Documentation that matches the grade. A supplier may hold approvals for the company while the quotation lists a grade that no document covers. Food contact and electrical work both depend on the paperwork naming the exact grade.
Batch retention. If one drum cures faster than the rest, the supplier should be able to identify the production run and the other drums from it. That is the difference between a correction and a debate.
A trial path that fits a workshop. Minimum order quantity, sampling lead time, and whether pre-production sampling is offered. Export buyers commonly begin from a trial quantity of 10kg, which is enough for a working mould and a week of casting.
| Dimension | Trader | Small workshop | Factory with a quality system |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price basis | factory price plus margin | low on standard grades | factory direct |
| Grade documentation | general certificate | rarely grade specific | declaration naming the grade |
| Batch records | usually none | limited | retention, traceable |
| Hardness range | stock items only | a few grades | adjustable 10 to 50 Shore A |
| Quality claim handling | forwarded to the factory | case by case | answered by production |
| Trial support | depends on the factory | limited stock | pre-production sampling |
Three questions separate a careful supplier from a busy one. What is the mixing ratio, and how much weighing error can the grade tolerate on a manual line? Which document covers this grade, and can it be sent before the order is placed? If the second drum behaves differently, what is the process for identifying it?
A supplier who answers these without looking anything up is working from a system. One who promises to check and never comes back is telling you something about the third order as well.
Thin-walled decorative moulds with fine relief usually sit in the softer half of the range, where the material releases without force. Flat panels and plaques need enough firmness to stay flat while the casting cures. Large architectural and cement work moves up to the firm end, where dimensional stability matters more than flexibility.
Hardness is only half of the choice. A mould built on a large master needs a support shell regardless of which grade is used, and a supplier who asks about the frame before naming a hardness is reading the job rather than the price list.
The second order is where suppliers reveal themselves. A grade that shifts by two points of hardness forces the workshop to re-learn how the mould behaves, which usually costs more than the difference in unit price. A supplier with batch retention removes that risk, because a drifting drum can be traced and replaced rather than absorbed.
Write the specification before contacting suppliers: resin or casting material, part size, relief depth, casting temperature, expected mould life, and the food contact or electrical requirement if there is one. Send it with a request for a sample, and run three casts against a real master. Record release force, surface finish and set time on each cast, then compare notes rather than quotations.
Shenzhen Hong Ye Jie Technology produces addition curing platinum silicone rubber across the 10 to 50 Shore A range for mould making, with batch retention, pre-production sampling and full inspection before shipment, and works with buyers who validate a grade on their own line before scaling up.
